Documentation

La documentation est l'action de sélectionner, de classifier, d'utiliser, et de diffuser des documents. Le métier de documentaliste est donc à classifier dans le domaine des services, mais aussi dans le domaine de l'éducation avec le métier de professeur-documentaliste qui gère le CDI des collèges et lycées et dont le rôle de pédagogue en tant que professionnel de l'information est prépondérant.

Par extension, la documentation désigne l'ensemble des renseignements et des documents : par exemple, la Documentation française.

Une documentation informatique est un système informatique qui fournit à la demande des réponses supposées pertinentes, sélectionnées dans un ensemble de connaissances préalablement mémorisées.
