Ad hoc est une locution latine qui signifie qui va vers ce quoi il doit aller, c'est-à-dire formé dans un but précis.

Personne ad hoc signifie, pour un individu donné ayant une connaissance accrue d'une matière, que cette personne est parfaitement qualifiée pour exécuter la tâche qui lui est confiée.

Étymologie

Ad est un préfixe emprunté à une langue ancienne (le latin) qui exprime en latin vulgaire la possession, et en latin plus littéraire ce préfixe indique la direction (vers) ou la destination

Hoc est compris dans la déclinaison de hic, haec, hoc démonstratif désignant un objet qui est plus rapproché dans le temps.

La signification de l'expression ad hoc est plus une notion d'attachement, de liaison, d'annexe ou d'ajout d'un objet (texte, phrase, graphique...) à un autre objet présent.

Nous pouvons retrouver ce sens dans l'expression ad vitam æternam.
