Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

Le DEFRA (Department for Environmental Food and Rural Affairs - Département pour l'Environnement, la Nourriture et les Affaires Rurales) est au Royaume-Uni est responsable de la protection de l'environnement, de la production et du suivi des normes concernant l'alimentation.

Il gère aussi les questions relatives à l'agriculture, la pêche, le piégeage, les phytosanitaires, mais aussi les communautés rurales ; il produit ou gère des statistiques sur ces questions.

Il a été créé en juin 2001, par fusion du ministère de l'agriculture, de la pêche et de l'alimentation (MAFF) avec une partie du Département de l'Environnement, du Transport et des Régions (DETR) après l'échec du MAFF pour correctement traiter une épidémie de fièvre aphteuse.

Le département disposait en janvier 2004 d'environ 8000 personnes pour mener et évaluer ses actions.
