Un deerstalker (littéralement « traqueur de daims ») est un chapeau anglais qui se porte à la campagne.

Description

Il présente une certaine tendance mimétique avec la forêt automnale et a un confort approprié pour ce genre de situations. Comme son nom l'indique, il est typiquement porté à la chasse.

Célébrité

Il a été rendu célèbre dans l'imagerie populaire en étant porté par le personnage fictif Sherlock Holmes. C'en est ainsi aussi devenu le stéréotype du chapeau de détective, avec la loupe et la pipe[réf. nécessaire].

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle n'a cependant jamais décrit Holmes comme portant ce chapeau, cela provient des premières illustrations des histoires par Sidney Paget[réf. nécessaire].

De nombreuses illustrations et mises en scènes de Sherlock Holmes le montrent régulièrement porter son deerstalker en ville ou en intérieur, ce qui est clairement inadapté.
