Daniel Robert Glickman dit Dan Glickman est un homme politique américain. Il est né le 24 novembre 1944 à Wichita au Kansas. D'abord juriste , il a été élu député pendant 18 ans (1977-1995) à la Chambre des représentants des États-Unis (United States House of Representatives), puis secrétaire à l'Agriculture dans le gouvernement Clinton (1995-2001) et occupe depuis 2004 le poste de président de la Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Biographie

Après être passé par l'Université de l'État du Kansas (Kansas State University), puis diplômé de l'Université du Michigan (University of Michigan), il obtient un titre de JD (Juris Doctor) à l'Université de George Washington (George Washington University) en 1969.

En 1969 et 1970, il travaille à la SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), l'organisme fédéral de réglementation et de contrôle des marchés financiers.

En 1976, il se présente en tant que démocrate aux élections de la Chambre des représentants des États-Unis. Il sera élu député du quatrième district du Kansas et prendra ses fonctions le 3 janvier 1977. Il sera réelu plusieurs fois (du 95e au 103e Congrès inclus), jusqu'au 3 janvier 1995 où il cessera son activité de député, suite à la défaite en 1994 face à Todd Tiahrt. Lors de son dernier mandat, il fut président du House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Suite à cette défaite, il fut appelé par le président Bill Clinton pour succéder à Mike Espy, au poste de secrétaire à l'Agriculture de son gouvernement, mission qu'il accomplira de 1995 à 2001.

En 2001, le mandat présidentiel de Bill Clinton prenant fin, il rejoint l'Université d'Harvard (Harvard University) pour y prendre les fonctions de directeur de l'Institut politique (Institute of Politics).

En 2004, la Motion Picture Association of America a annoncé qu'il remplacerait Jack Valenti à la tête de cette association, défendant les intérêts de industrie cinématographique américaine grâce à un lobbyisme actif. Il a pris ses fonctions le 1er septembre 2004.
