Appartenant à la grande famille des Toons, personnages de dessins animés américains produits par Warner Bros. Pictures, Daffy Duck est un canard noir, très nerveux, colérique et égoïste (bien qu'à ses débuts, il était plus représenté comme un canard fou sautant subitement partout d'une façon hystérique). Il fit ses débuts dans le court métrage Porky's Duck Hunt (1937) de Tex Avery. Doté d'un grand bec orange et de larges pieds palmés, il a sévi dans 126 dessins animés jusqu'en 1964, avant de disparaitre totalement des écrans pendant plus de 23 ans. Il fit son grand retour dans The Duxorcist (1987). À l'origine, c'était l'acteur Hugh Herbert qui lui prêtait sa voix avant d'être doublé par Mel Blanc. En français c'est Pierre Trabaud qui l'interprétait avant d'être remplacé par Patrick Guillemin. À l'instar de Donald Duck, c'est en raison de tous ses défauts que le public lui voue une indéniable tendresse. Empruntant parfois le déguisement de personnages célèbres (Robin des Bois, Buck Rogers), Daffy Duck s'élance dans des aventures qui le dépassent complètement, ce qui lui vaut de cruelles déconvenues. Voulant à tout prix être ami avec le cochon Porky Pig (qui toutefois ne s'entend pas toujours bien avec lui), il est le rival déclaré de Bugs Bunny dont il est profondément jaloux.

Sa phrase fétiche à l'encontre de ce dernier est "Tu es méprisable."

Coïncidence innocente ou clin d'œil délibéré, le nom "Daffy Duck" est une contrepèterie (en anglais).

Un de ses déguisements a donné le personnage de Duck Dodgers, un capitaine de vaisseau spatial, accompagné du cadet (Porky), et combattant inlassablement Marvin le martien. Récemment, une série animée a pris pour héros Duck Dodgers.
