Chabazite

La chabazite (souvent orthographié à tort "chabasite") est un tectosilicate de la famille des zéolites avec la formule: (Ca, Na 2, K 2, Mg) Al 2 Si 4 O 12 6H 2 O.

On en connaît différentes variétés comprenant Chabazite-Ca, Chabazite-K, Chabazite-Na, et Chabazite-Sr en fonction de l'importance du cation indiqué.


La chabazite fut d'abord nommée "chabasie"[1] en 1792 par Louis-Augustin Bosc d'Antic puis plus tard devint la chabazite.

La chabazite est présente le plus souvent dans les creux des roches basaltiques.

Le chabazite se trouve en Inde, Islande, les îles Féroé, Irlande du Nord, la Bohême, l'Italie, l'Allemagne, dans le Cantal, le long de la baie de Fundy en Nouvelle-Écosse, en Oregon, en Arizona et au New Jersey.

L'acadialite est une variété de chabazite de couleur rouge.
