La putrescine (1,4-diaminobutane) est le produit de la décarboxylation de l'ornithine par l'ornithine décarboxylase. C'est une diamine.

La putrescine est un poison solide à odeur répugnante qui participe à l’odeur d’urine et dans la mauvaise haleine.
