Béla Fleck and the Flecktones

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones est un groupe de jazz fusion. La formation est en effet assez originale avec un joueur de banjo, un saxophoniste/flûtiste, un bassiste et un batteur utilisant un drumitar.

Comme le nom l’indique, le leader Béla Fleck est très influent au sein du groupe. Son jeu au banjo très technique apporte un son particulier au groupe.

Les frères Victor et Roy Wooten assurent la section rythmique respectivement à la basse et à la batterie. Victor Wooten est mondialement connu pour son jeu technique utilisant en particulier le slap. Future Man joue des percussions sur un drumitar, c’est un synthétiseur MIDI où les boutons sont sur une guitare.

La lineup du groupe a peu changé depuis la sortie du premier album. Howard Levy, un joueur d'harmonica a participé aux trois premiers albums. Après son départ, Béla Fleck et les frères Wooten ont sorti l'album Three Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, en référence à un film sorti en 1975 : One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, basé sur une nouvelle de Ken Kesey. Enfin, ils ont été rejoint par Jeff Coffin au saxophone à partir de l'album Live Art.

Le groupe a gagné plusieurs Grammy awards. Enfin, tous les membres ont au moins sorti un album solo.
