Dans la mythologie nordique, Tyrfing est une épée magique. Elle est mentionnée dans l’Edda poétique. Elle fut forgée par les nains Dvalinn et Durin sous la contrainte de Svafrlami.
Les nains jetèrent une malédiction sur l'épée : si Tyrfing apportait la victoire à son porteur, elle causerait également 3 mauvais actes.
Svafrlami fut tué par Arngrim, un berserk, qui lui pris son épée à son tour. Après elle fut portée par Angantyr et ses 11 frères. Tous furent tuées à Samsø par le champion suédois Hjalmar et son frère Orvar-Odd; mais Hjalmar fut blessé mortellement par l'épée et eu juste le temps de demander à Orvard-Odd de rapporter son corps à Uppsala.
Références
Dans la série de Bjorn le morphir et de Bjorn aux enfers, elle est citée en tant qu'épée magique douée de vie. Elle confère une rage du combat incommensurable à son porteur et aurait été porté par un héros du nom de Snorri.
