Bill Ward

Wiliam Bill Ward (né William Thomas Ward le 5 mai 1948 à Birmingham en Angleterre) est le batteur du groupe Black Sabbath.

En 1981, Bill Ward dut quitter le groupe, suite à des problèmes personnels (il est de santé fragile - il a été victime d'une crise cardiaque - et ses deux parents venaient de mourir dans un court intervalle de temps). Il a réintégré le groupe Black Sabbath à plusieurs reprises, notamment en 1983 le temps d'enregistrer l'album Born Again (avec Ian Gillan au chant), pour la réunion des membres originaux en 1985 (Live AID) et en 1997 (album Reunion).

Bill Ward peut être considéré comme l'un des meilleurs batteurs du monde du rock (avec John Bonham, Ian Paice, Keith Moon, et Neil Peart), son style mammouthesque alliant force, puissance, rapidité et inventivité. On peut également remarquer dans son jeu une influence jazz (écouter Wicked World ou Hand of Doom, entre autres), le groupe étant à ses débuts un groupe de jazz-blues, appelé Earth (sur une proposition de Bill Ward lui-même). Leur manager d'alors était un jazzman qui a contribué à leur succès dans les pubs des environs de Birmingham, puis au Royaume-Uni tout entier[1].

Ward est de régime vegan[2].
