Big Country est un groupe de rock écossais aux influences celtiques formé en 1981 par Stuart Adamson (chant et guitare), ancien membre de The Skids, et Bruce Watson (guitare). La formation est complétée par Clive Parker à la batterie, Peter Wishart (qui rejoindra plus tard Runrig) aux claviers et son frère Alan à la basse. Ces trois derniers sont remplacés en 1982 par le bassiste Tony Butler et le batteur Mark Brzezicki.

La caractéristique du groupe est d'évoquer par l'intermédiaire des guitares les instruments traditionnels celtes, en particulier les cornemuses.

Big Country connait un important succès dès le premier album produit par Steve Lillywhite, The Crossing, sorti en 1983 dont sont extraits plusieurs singles comme In a Big Country ou Fields of Fire. Leur deuxième album, Steeltown, entrera directement à la 1e place des charts britanniques. Six autres albums suivront jusqu'en 1999 et une tournée d'adieu aura lieu en 2000. Le suicide, en décembre 2001, de Stuart Adamson, leader du groupe, semblait mettre un terme à l'histoire de Big Country. Mais, en 2007, une série de concerts dans une formation à trois composée de Bruce Watson, Mark Brzezicki et Tony Butler (ce dernier assurant le chant), suivie d'un album live, Twenty-Five Live, relance l'histoire du groupe. Un mini album studio contenant de nouveaux morceaux et titré In Our Name est réalisé en 2008, mais sous le nom de BBW (pour Brzezicki, Butler, Watson) à cause de problèmes de droits concernant l'utilisation du nom "Big Country" pour de nouveaux enregistrements en studio.

Fin 2010, Big Country se reforme pour une tournée, avec une formation augmentée de Jamie Watson, le fils de Bruce Watson, et de Mike Peters, le chanteur du groupe The Alarm[1].
