Sarkar est un film indien réalisé par Ram Gopal Varma en 2005. Adaptation du Parrain de Francis Ford Coppola, il réunit Amitabh Bachchan et Abhishek Bachchan, père et fils d'une puissante famille mafieuse.

La suite du film, Sarkar Raj, est sortie le 6 juin 2008.

Résumé

Subhash Nagre que son entourage appelle Sarkar (suzerain en hindi), utilise des méthodes peu avouables pour faire régner l'ordre. L'aîné de ses fils, Vishnu, est un personnage trouble qui produit des films et s’intéresse de très près aux starlettes qu'il côtoie. Le plus jeune, Shankar, vient d'achever ses études aux États-Unis et est amoureux de Pooja qui nourrit la plus grande méfiance à l'égard des activités de Sarkar. Progressivement, l'intègre Shankar est amené à s’immiscer dans les affaires familiales pour aider son père dans lequel il a toute confiance.

Sarkar a été un succès supérieur à la moyenne au box-office, se classant à la huitième place[1].

Le film a été bien accueilli par la critique qui souligne la qualité de l'interprétation d'Amitabh Bachchan, de Kay Kay Menon et d'Abhishek Bachchan[2] qui reçoit plusieurs prix du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle : Filmfare Awards 2006, IIFA Awards 2006 et Zee Cine Awards.
