Airgas

Airgas, Inc. est un groupe américain, producteur de gaz industriels.

Fondée en 1982 par Peter McCausland, Airgas est aujourd'hui numéro 4 américain et numéro 7 mondial dans son secteur. Son fondateur est encore aujourd'hui P-DG (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer) du groupe[1].

Airgas emploie plus de 14000 salariés, est basée à Radnor en Pennsylvanie, et est cotée sur le New York Stock Exchange[2].

Airgas était au 553e rang dans le classement Fortune 1000 de 2009, avec un chiffre d'affaires de 4,02 milliards de dollars et 223,3 millions de dollars de résultat net en 2008[3]. Le groupe était classé 709e dans le classement 2006.

Parmi ses clients on trouve des multinationales telles que 3M, Valeo, Du Pont de Nemours, Robert Bosch, Kimberly-Clark[4].

Depuis sa création, la société a réalisé quelque 400 acquisitions en Amérique du Nord, et notamment une centaine de sites de production de gaz comprimé de son concurrent et compatriote Air Products and Chemicals. Ce dernier a déposé en février 2010 une offre publique d'achat (OPA) hostile de 7 milliards de dollars sur le groupe pour le racheter[1].

Ses autres concurrents sont entre autres le français Air liquide, l'allemand Linde AG et l'américain Praxair[1].
