Abraham Bloch

Abraham Bloch (1859 - 1914) est un rabbin français, aumônier des armées, tué à l'ennemi en 1914.

Né le 7 novembre 1859 à Paris, il a fait ses études au Séminaire Israélite de France avant de devenir rabbin. Il a notamment été grand-rabbin d'Alger et de Lyon.

En 1914, au déclenchement de la Première Guerre mondiale, il s'engage comme aumônier militaire et sert à la 14e Section d’infirmiers militaires. Le 29 août 1914 à Anozel près du village de Taintrux (Vosges), il tend un crucifix à un blessé chrétien qui le lui demandait et est mortellement blessé durant cette action.

Plusieurs illustrations représentent cette scène qui figure le martyre des aumôniers, mais aussi l'union sacrée des Français de toutes religions. Une stèle de granit a été inaugurée en 1934 (et restaurée depuis) sur le lieu de l'événement.
