Match nul

Un match nul est une rencontre sportive entre deux équipes qui aboutit à une situation pour laquelle il n'y a ni vainqueur ni perdant et dans laquelle le score est nul, c'est-à-dire de 0 à 0. Le "match nul" est donc un cas particulier d'égalité, on ne peut employer cette expression dans le cas d'une égalité de 1-1, etc.

Dans le cadre du football, le match est déclaré nul en cas d'égalité selon la loi 10 du football, ceci même si une séance de tirs au but départage les deux équipes. On peut alors faire une distinction entre un match nul et un match nul et vierge, qui correspond à un score de 0 à 0, distinction sans conséquence sur la validation du score par la FIFA.
