La wulfénite est un minéral cristallin composé de molybdate de plomb de formule PbMoO4 dont les cristaux forment des tablettes orangées, et qui contient un élément rare, le molybdène (métal utilisé dans les ampoules électriques). Oligoélément indispensable à la vie, on peut le trouver dans les racines des plantes en grande concentration.

Ce minéral fut nommé en l'honneur du botaniste et minéralogiste autrichien Franz Xaver von Wulfen (1728-1805).
