Le World Wrestling Entertainment Championship, plus communément appelée WWE Championship, est un titre de championnat de catch. Le premier championnat date de 1963[2]. C'est l'un des 3 titres, avec le WWE World Heavyweight Championship et le ECW Championship, les plus importants de la World Wrestling Entertainment. Il est exclusif à la division RAW.

Historique

Le championnat n'a pas toujours été connu sous le nom de WWE Championship. En effet, de 1963 à 1971, ce championnat s'appelait WWWF World Heavyweight Championship. Il prendra ensuite le nom de WWWF Heavyweight Championship entre 1971 et 1979 puis WWF Heavyweight Championship entre 1979 et 1983, WWF World Heavyweight Championship/WWF Championship de 1983 jusqu'en décembre 2001. Un nouveau nom lui sera attribué de décembre 2001 à septembre 2002 : le WWF/WWE Undisputed Championship, après avoir fusionné avec le WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Puis enfin, jusqu'à aujourd'hui, la ceinture se nomme WWE Championship[3].

Lors du draft de 2008, le détenteur de titre Triple H, a été drafté au Show SmackDown!, ce qui a permis à la ceinture de changer également de division[4]. Elle y restera un an avant de reveneir dans sa division d'origine puisque lors du draft de 2009, Triple H, toujours détenteur du titre est drafté à RAW[5].

Le premier détenteur du titre est Buddy Rogers (en) en 1963 dans un match l'opposant à Antonino Rocca (en)[1].

Le champion actuel est Randy Orton qui a battu John Cena a WWE Hell in a Cell 2009.
