Les Tony Awards (dont le nom complet est Antoinette Perry Award), créés en 1947, constituent la plus importante récompense annuelle pour le théâtre (y compris les comédies musicales) aux États-Unis. On considère souvent cette récompense comme l'homologue, pour l'art dramatique, des Oscars au cinéma.

Attribuée par un jury d'à peu près 700 personnes issues de divers métiers de l'industrie et de la presse du spectacle, la récompense a été fondée par l'American Theatre Wing sur la proposition d'un comité des producteurs de théâtre.

Depuis 1967, la cérémonie est retransmise sur une chaîne de télévision nationale, et inclut des chansons extraites des comédies musicales nominées, ainsi que des clips visuels sur les pièces de théâtre nominées. L'American Theatre Wing et la League of American Theatres and Producers présentent et gèrent conjointement les récompenses. L'audimat des télédiffusions est généralement bien au-dessous de ceux d'autres cérémonies de récompenses, mais le programme touche un public aisé, prisé des annonceurs publicitaires.
