Aaron Dontez Yates alias Tech N9ne est un rappeur américain né le 8 novembre 1971 à Kansas City (Missouri).

Biographie

Tech N9ne naît le 8 novembre 1971 à Kansas City (Missouri) dans une famille très religieuse. Après avoir été danseur[1], son oncle Ike l'initie au rap et Tech se retrouvera dans cette musique, rentrant très tôt dans la culture hip-hop (à l'âge de 14 ans si l'on en croit ce qu'il dit dans la chanson Cursed). Son premier DJ est son cousin Dj Icy rock avec qui il débute sa carrière en ouvrant au Kemper Arena pour EPMD et Kwame. Sa vie sera particulièrement influencée par les gangs, notamment la branche des Bloods de Kansas City avec les 57th Street Rogue Dog Villains dont Tech est très proche, ces derniers ayant sorti quelques albums ou Tech N9ne est un featuring récurrent. La chanson qui le sortira de l'ombre sera d'ailleurs Mitch Bade, qu'il a interprétée avec Vell Bakarii, un membre des Rogue Dog Villains. Ses textes parlent souvent de cela ainsi que de ses nombreuses expériences avec la drogue et les femmes, tout en abordant les sujets de façon différentes (Here I Come sur un sample de Ludwig van Beethoven, est une ode aux clubs de strip-tease, mais en même temps Real Killer dénonce l'avortement). Il est connu dans sa carrière pour avoir maquillé ou peint son visage.

Dans les années 90, il enregistre un morceau avec 2Pac.

En 1999 il participe au morceau The Anthem sur l'album de Sway & King Tech feat. Dj Révolution avec plusieurs invités.

Il commence à devenir populaire avec son album Anghellic en 2000 sur des sons électro, avec Here I Come et le morceau Einstein. C'est lors de la réalisation de cet album qu'il rencontre Big Krizz Kaliko, plus précisément sur la piste Who You Came To See, ou Krizz Kaliko aurait affirmé pouvoir fournir un refrain meilleur que celui que Tech avait déjà. Après avoir chanté ledit refrain, les deux artistes devinrent inséparables. En témoignent les innombrables participations de Krizz Kaliko à la majorité des morceaux que Tech N9ne a fait à partir de cette époque.

Puis sort en 2002 Absolute Power sur le label Strange Music qu'il a fondé avec Travis O'Guin, qui confirme son style rapcore à la Ol' Dirty Bastard classé 79e aux The Billboard 200 et 3e au Top Independent Albums[2]. Ses lives sont des vrais shows avec déguisement.

Il fait partie du groupe The Regime (en) qui a sorti trois albums. En 2003, il fait partie avec Insane Clown Posse et Kottonmouth Kings, du "wicked woncka tour" destiné à un public "rock".

Tech N9ne dit dans un entretien à Tim VonHolten : « J'entre dans la machine pour foutre la machine dans un sale état où même plus. L'industrie de la musique sonne faux, il me fait tourner l'estomac. Je rentre dans le ventre de la bête pour l'infecter avec ma merde et ça devient une belle infection. Le public adore ce virus, mon virus est la musique. » [3]

En 2008, Tech N9ne a notamment effectué une tournée du nom de Fire and Ice Tour avec les rappeurs Paul Wall et l'ex membre de Non Phixion - Ill Bill, montrant qu'il a bel et bien atteint le sommet de l'underground sans signer avec aucun major, sachant que Paul Wall est un rappeur que l'on peut considérer comme grand public.

En 2010, Tech N9ne prépare un nouveau solo intitulé All 6s & 7s en référence au chiffre du Diable et de Dieu. Tech N9ne a affirmé que l'album serait un retour au source hip hop, et qu'il travaillait avec plusieurs grands noms du rap comme Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Raekwon ,Ghostface Killah et Andre 3000 d'Outkast.

Dans une radio, lors d'une interview, Lil Wayne a déclaré vouloir travailler avec Tech N9ne pour Tha Carter 4, ces derniers se sont rencontrés a la prison où est incarcéré Lil Wayne pour parler de leur future collaboration .

En Octobre, Tech N9ne sortira un EP intituler Seepage EP. Il sera composé de 5 sons très sombre, dans la même lignée que l'album K.O.D., très rapidement suivra un Mixtape Bad Season produit par DJ Whoo Kid qui sortira pour Halloween, on y retrouvera des invités comme Snoop Dogg, E-40, Jay Rock, The Game, Krizz Kaliko. Tech N9ne commence peu à peu son ascension vers le sommet et la reconnaissance. Il a déclaré dernièrement que l'album de Kabosh allait enfin arriver lors d'une interview, il travaille actuellement dessus avec Krizz Kaliko et le groupe Hip Hop/Rock Dirty Wormz.

En 2011, Tech N9ne sort All 6's & 7's, avec des invités de renom comme B.o.B , E-40 , Snoop Dogg , T-Pain , Mint Condition , Hopsin , Busta Rhymes , Twista , Lil Wayne , Yelawolf et Deftones. L'album rencontre un véritable succès commercial (54 000 copies vendues la première semaine, par comparaison, ce sont les mêmes chiffres que Rick Ross), plus de 150 000 copies vendu a ce jours. Tech N9ne accède enfin à une véritable reconnaissance du public rap. Tech N9ne prévois aussi tourné les clips de "Worldwide Choppers", "Fuck Food", "Am I Psycho" & "So Lonely".

Vers fin Aout, Tech N9ne déclare être entré en Studio pour un nouvel album de la serie collabo, "Welcome to Strangeland", prévu pour le 8 Novembre avec comme invités Prozak, Yelawolf, IRV Da Phenom, Machine Gun Kelly, mais aussi les membre de Strange Music Krizz Kaliko, Young Bleed, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob, Jay Rock, MayDay ou encore Stevie Stone & Brotha Lynch Hung. L'album contiendra en tout 18 morceaux dont 10 prod de Seven, 2 de David Sanders II, 2 de Mayday et 4 de Jomeezious, sans compter les skit de ben Cybulsky.

Parallèlement, Tech N9ne travaille sur un EP intitulé "KlusterFuk" comprenant entièrement des production du groupe Mayday. Il dit aussi que l'album de Kabosh sortira apres "KlusterFuk" & "Welcome to Strangland", soit en 2012.

Des rappeurs comme Young Jeezy, Xzibit, Lloyd Banks, Tyler, the Creator ou encore Too Short ont fait savoir qu'ils aimerais collaboraient avec Tech N9ne dans le futur.

Tech N9ne est présenté sur le neuvième album de Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV sur le morceau "Interlude" en Featuring avec Andre 3000 d'Outkast. Durant son concert a Kansas City lors de sa tournée "I am Still Music", Lil Wayne a fait monté Tech N9ne en pleins concert devant des milliers de fan pour le remercié de tout ce qu'il avait fait pour lui. Quelque semaines après, Tech N9ne dit via Twitter avoir terminé d'enregistré "Welcome to Strangeland".

Le 11 octobre, Tech N9ne apparaîtra aux Bet Hip Hop Awards pour le Cypher 2011. Il rappera aux côtés de Kendrick Lamar, Machine Gun Kelly, B.o.B & Big KRIT. L'équipe "Shady 2.0." composée d'Eminem, Yelawolf & Slaughterhouse y participera également. Chaque MC se relaiera pour donner un freestyle et montrer ce qu'il sait faire.
