Take the "A" Train
Take the "A" Train (Prendre le train « A ») est une composition du pianiste et arrangeur Billy Strayhorn écrite en 1941 pour Duke Ellington. Ce dernier l'utilisa comme indicatif des concerts de son orchestre.
Le « A Train » était le métro qui reliait le centre de New York à Harlem (station de Sugar Hill).
Strayhorn, raconte, dans une interview de 1967[1] :
« Quand j’arrivai à New York, on construisait une nouvelle ligne de métro. J’habitais sur le passage de cette ligne mais il y avait une autre ligne, la D, qui, elle, bifurquait juste avant d’arriver chez moi, pour aller dans le Bronx. Les gens se trompaient souvent de ligne, ils prenaient la D et, pour éviter toute confusion quand ils venaient chez moi, je leur disais " take the A train. »
