Susan Meiselas est une photographe américaine, née en 1948 à Baltimore dans le Maryland.

Biographie

Meiselas fit ses études secondaire à Woodmere, New York, puis obtint un Master of Arts à l'Université Harvard. Son premier travail photographique fut un reportage sur les strip-teaseuses dans les foires de Nouvelle Angleterre, alors qu'elle enseignait la photographie dans des écoles publiques de New York. Le livre, Carnival Strippers, fût publié en 1976, année où elle rejoint l'Agence Magnum Photos pour se consacrer entièrement à la pratique photographique.

Susan Meiselas, est particulièrement connue pour ses reportages sur la révolution au Nicaragua et sur les questions relatives aux droits de l'Homme en Amérique Latine.

En 1997, elle termina un travail de reconstitution par l'image de l'histoire et de l'identité du peuple Kurde en associant ses propres photos à des photos anciennes trouvées au cours de ses voyages dans la région.
