Straight Outta Compton est le premier album studio de N.W.A. sorti en 1988 chez Priority Records, après la compilation collective N.W.A. and the Posse (1987). Tous les titres sont produits par Dr. Dre et DJ Yella pour High Powered Productions. L'album est également connu informellement sous le nom de Git Yo Cracker Ass Outta Here, titre original censuré lors de la sortie officielle.

Sur cet album, MC Ren rejoint le groupe pour la formation initiale : Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren et DJ Yella.

A sa sortie, le disque connut une vive controverse notamment à cause du titre "Fuck tha police" où le groupe dénoncait le racisme et la violence des forces de l'ordre de Los Angeles.

Les thèmes abordés sont la violence ("Gangsta Gangsta"), la drogue ("Dope man").

"Straight outta Compton" tourna une page de l'histoire du rap et popularisa le Gangsta Rap.

"Express yourself" fut un hit en 1989.

"Fuck tha police" est N° 417 des 500 Greatest songs of all time du magazine Rolling Stone en 2003, tandis que l'album lui-même figure dans la liste des 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (2006).
