Śruti ou çruti ou shruti (devanāgarī : श्रुति - sanskrit (IAST : śru-ti) : « audition », « oreille », « connaissance révélée » (opposée de Smriti, textes de la tradition)[1].

Tradition orale

Dans le védisme, le brahmanisme, puis l'hindouisme, śruti est le nom donné à la révélation reçue par les sages Rishi des temps les plus anciens. Śruti signifie en sanskrit le fait d'entendre, d'où « texte entendu » ou « texte révélé ». Il s'agit dans ce cas d'une audition « intérieure », d'une cognition intuitive.
