Social business

Un social business est une entreprise dont le but officiel est la participation à la résolution d'un problème social, écologique… Le concept a été créé par Muhammad Yunus[1]. Cette notion se rapproche à celle d'entrepreneuriat social, développée depuis peu.

Ce type de structure a toutes les caractéristiques des autres entreprises, doit notamment rester rentable, voire dégager des bénéfices. Le social business n'ayant pas pour but la recherche de profits récupèrent simplement leur investissement au bout d'un certain temps, sans plus-value ou dividende.

Ainsi les bénéfices dégagés par l'entreprise servent à étendre son activité constamment.

On ne retrouve donc pas dans les social business les grands problèmes qu'ont, soit les ONG, soit les gouvernements : recherche constante de fonds, problème de corruption, lenteur administrative. L'entreprise est indépendante financièrement, ne dépend pas de fonds ni d'un organisme quelconque.

Il existe aujourd'hui quelques social business. Par exemple, Grameen Danone Foods qui vend des yaourts à six centimes au Bangladesh, et ce de façon rentable.
