Un quota est une quantité allouée pour une période de temps à un agent, par exemple, un quota de pêche est un total autorisé de capture accordé à un pays ou à un pêcheur pour une période d'un an.

Autre exemple : les quotas de production et de diffusion d'œuvres d'expression originale française, pour le cinéma, l'audiovisuel, et la chanson, dans le cadre de la politique d'exception culturelle française.
