Pixilation

La pixilation (de l'anglais pixilated) est une technique d'animation en volume, où des acteurs réels ou des objets sont filmés image par image.

Le premier film qui utilise la technique de pixilation est Jobard ne peut pas voir les femmes travailler d'Émile Courtet en 1911. Le plus célèbre est certainement Neighbours (Voisins) de Norman McLaren (Canada-1952)[1], suivi par son film avec Claude Jutra, Il était une chaise[2].

Pixilated en anglais signifie familièrement bourré, ivre. Littéralement, il signifie affecté par les pixies, de l'anglais pixy-led (dirigé par un pixie, ou ensorcelé). Un pixie est une sorte de fée ou de lutin. Cela n'a donc rien à voir avec les pixels.

À ne pas confondre avec le mosaïquage (en anglais pixelization) qui consiste à réduire la définition d'une image.

La pixilation a notamment été utilisée par Jan Kounen dans son court métrage Gisèle Kérozène.
