En archéologie, un orthostat (ou orthostate) est un mégalithe érigé.

Les menhirs sont donc des orthostates, mais le terme est généralement utilisé pour décrire les pierres individuelles qui font partie d'une structure mégalithique plus grande, comme les murs des allées couvertes ou les composants verticaux des trilithes, tels ceux de Stonehenge.
