Ninurta est une divinité guerrière de la mythologie sumérienne. Il est le dieu de la fertilité, de l'irrigation, du labour et du vent du sud. Fils de Enlil et de Ninlil, son frère est Nergal et son épouse est Gula. Ninurta est souvent représenté tenant un arc et une flèche. Il possède une massue appelée Sharur (ou Sarur) qui est douée de parole. Le centre de son culte était situé à Nippur. Niurta est probablement une forme tardive de Ningirsu avec lequel il est souvent confondu et dont le culte était rendu à Girsu (Lagash).
