The Times est un quotidien britannique conservateur, fondé en 1785 par John Walter, sous le nom de London Daily Universal Register.

En 2006, The Times est tiré en moyenne à plus de 650 000 exemplaires par jour.

Ligne éditoriale

  • Le journal The Times fut pendant longtemps considéré comme un journal de haut niveau avec des journalistes et chroniqueurs qualifiés. On note cependant une popularisation du journal depuis qu'il a été repris par le groupe News Corp (avec à sa tête Rupert Murdoch) qui tend à donner plus d'importance au sport et aux célébrités. Dans le but d'attirer la jeune génération, le journal a adopté en 2004 un format compact, qui est l'équivalent du format tabloïd pour les journaux de qualité.
