John Edensor Littlewood
John Edensor Littlewood (9 juin 1885–6 septembre 1977) était un mathématicien anglais.
Littlewood est né a Rochester dans le Kent. Il a fait ses études à Cambridge.
Il a surtout travaillé en analyse. Il a commencé ses recherches sous la direction de Ernest William Barnes, sur le sujet des fonctions entières.
Il a collaboré pendant de nombreuses années avec Hardy et ils ont formulé ensemble deux conjectures.
Son travail en collaboration, fait essentiellement par correspondance, porte sur l'approximation diophantienne et le problème de Waring.
Il a aussi travaillé avec Raymond Paley sur la théorie de Fourier.
Il est lauréat de la Médaille Sylvester et de la Royal Medal pour ses travaux en théorie des nombres. Il reçoit également la médaille Copley en 1958. Il meurt à Cambridge en 1977.
