Li Shizhen ou 李時珍 en chinois (1518-1593) est un médecin, herboriste et naturaliste chinois contemporain de la dynastie Ming.

Membre de l’Académie impériale de médecine de Pékin, Li Shizhen est surtout connu comme l'auteur du Grand Traité de Matière Médicale (Bencao gangmu ou 本草綱目 en chinois). Cet ouvrage rédigé entre 1552 et 1578 puis réédité et complété en 1580 et 1587 est une vaste encyclopédie médicale notamment consacrée aux produits thérapeutiques et aux plantes médicinales. On y trouve notamment les descriptions de 1892 substances thérapeutiques parmi lesquelles on dénombre 1094 espèces de plantes et 275 minéraux. 444 espèces animales sont également décrites. L'ouvrage comporte 53 volumes, 1160 illustrations et 11000 prescriptions. Il est publié au Japon en 1607, puis traduit en russe, allemand, français et anglais au XVIIIe siècle.
