Qui peut être compris. Cet auteur n’est pas intelligible. Ce passage est fort intelligible.

Il signifie aussi Qui peut être perçu distinctement par l’oreille. Parler à haute et intelligible voix. Des sons distincts et intelligibles.

Dans le langage philosophique, il s’oppose à Sensible et signifie Qui est perçu comme plus ou moins réel par la pensée pure et non pas par les sens. Les idées de Platon constituent un monde intelligible. La réalité sensible dépend de la réalité intelligible. Il est souvent pris comme nom dans ce sens. Les intelligibles de la philosophie alexandrine. La sensible dérive de l’intelligible.
