Action de celui qui propose le premier quelque chose. Il prit l’initiative de cette démarche. Initiative louable. Initiative malheureuse.

Droit d’initiative, ou simplement Initiative, se dit du Droit de faire le premier certaines propositions. Dans la plupart des constitutions, l’initiative des lois appartient au gouvernement et aux membres des assemblées législatives. l’initiative parlementaire.

Il se dit encore d’une Qualité de l’esprit qui consiste à proposer, à entreprendre le premier quelque chose. Esprit d’initiative. Il manque d’initiative.
