Argent comptant. Il n’est guère usité en ce sens que dans l’expression : Moyennant finance.

Il se dit quelquefois, au pluriel, de l’état de fortune, des ressources pécuniaires d’une personne. Il est mal dans ses finances. Ses finances sont basses, sont fort dérangées. Dans ce sens et le précédent, il est familier.

Au pluriel il désigne particulièrement, l’Argent et les revenus de l’état. L’administration des finances. Le maniement des finances. La loi de finances. Ménager les finances de l’état. Le ministre des Finances. Le Ministère des Finances. Inspecteur des finances. Sous- secrétaire d’état aux Finances. Receveur des finances.

Il se dit au singulier, par extension, de l’Ensemble de ceux qui font des opérations de banque, de grandes affaires d’argent. Entrer dans la finance. Un homme de finance. La haute finance. La finance internationale.
