Union par mariage. Il a fait une grande alliance, une alliance honorable en mariant sa fille à un tel. Ces deux familles sont unies par plusieurs alliances.   Il se dit également de L'union, de la confédération qui se fait entre deux ou plusieurs États pour leurs intérêts communs. Ce peuple avait une ancienne alliance avec la France. Acte d'alliance. Traité d'alliance. Alliance offensive et défensive. Faire alliance avec un peuple. Contracter, conclure une alliance. L'alliance qui existe entre ces deux souverains. Ils ont formé une alliance redoutable. Renouveler une alliance. Rompre une alliance. Briguer l'alliance d'un prince, d'une nation. On dit de même que Deux partis font alliance, ont contracté une alliance, etc.

ALLIANCE, se dit aussi d'Une affinité spirituelle. Voyez AFFINITÉ.  Ancienne alliance, L'alliance que Dieu contracta avec Abraham et ses descendants ; et, Nouvelle alliance, L'alliance que Dieu a contractée, par la rédemption, avec tous ceux qui croiraient en JÉSUS-CHRIST. L'ancienne alliance a duré depuis la vocation d'Abraham jusqu'à la venue du Messie. ALLIANCE, se dit aussi d'Une bague d'or ou d'argent composée de deux cercles réunis. Une alliance de mariage. Acheter une alliance. Porter au doigt une alliance.
