. s. f.
Ébranlement prolongé, mouvement en sens opposés. L'agitation du navire était violente. Il ne peut supporter l'agitation du cheval. L'agitation de la voiture lui fait mal. L'agitation de la mer. L'agitation des flots. L'agitation des nerfs.   Il se dit particulièrement, en Médecine, d'Un mouvement continuel et fatigant du corps, occasionné par un grand malaise, par une grande inquiétude d'esprit. L'agitation prolongée de ce malade est un symptôme fâcheux.   Il se dit figurément Du trouble, de l'inquiétude pénible que les passions causent dans l'âme. Être dans une grande agitation d'esprit. L'amour, la haine, le désir, la crainte, causent différentes agitations dans l'âme. Il y a une grande agitation, grande agitation dans les esprits. Calmer l'agitation des esprits.   Il se dit également Du trouble qui règne dans une assemblée, parmi le peuple, etc., et qui se manifeste par des mouvements inquiets. Il y avait de l'agitation dans l'assemblée. L'agitation était à son comble. Il y a de l'agitation parmi le peuple.
