Qui commande dans une place, ou qui commande des troupes, une troupe. Les officiers commandants. Capitaine commandant.   Il est plus ordinairement substantif. S'il se fait du désordre, on s'en prendra au commandant. Il faut parler au commandant.   Il se dit particulièrement Des chefs de bataillon ou d'escadron, et Des lieutenants de roi qui commandent dans les places. Le grade de commandant. Commandant de place.
