. s. f.
T. de Jurispr. Manière d'acquérir la propriété d'une chose, par la possession non interrompue pendant un temps que la loi détermine, ou de se libérer d'une dette, quand le créancier a laissé passer un certain temps sans en demander le payement. Prescription par dix ans entre présents, par vingt ans entre absents. Prescription trentenaire, centenaire. Acquérir la prescription. Interrompre la prescription. On lui a opposé la prescription. La prescription ne court point entre époux.

PRESCRIPTION, signifie aussi quelquefois, Ordonnance, précepte. L'ambition foule aux pieds toutes les prescriptions de la loi et de la justice. Il est peu usité.  Prescriptions médicales, Les ordonnances des médecins. Les prescriptions médicales ne sauraient être trop claires et trop précises.
