Qui est propre et particulier à chaque personne. Mérite personnel. Qualité personnelle. Venger une injure personnelle.

Prov., Les fautes sont personnelles, On n'est pas responsable des fautes d'autrui.  Critique personnelle, Celle où l'on s'attache moins à relever les fautes de l'ouvrage, qu'à censurer la vie, les actions, le caractère de l'auteur. La critique personnelle est odieuse.   En Jurispr., Action personnelle, Action par laquelle on poursuit une personne qui est redevable ou obligée en son propre nom. Droit personnel, Droit tellement attaché à la personne, qu'il ne peut être transporté à une autre. Ils sont opposés à Action réelle et Droit réel.   En termes de Finances, Contribution personnelle, Celle que l'on paye individuellement, à raison de sa personne, de son logement, etc.  Entrée personnelle, Droit d'entrer dans un spectacle, dans une assemblée, etc., qui ne peut se communiquer, se transmettre à d'autres.  En Grammaire, Pronom personnel, Pronom qui marque la personne, comme Moi, toi, lui, nous, vous, eux, soi, se. PERSONNEL, signifie aussi, Qui est égoïste, qui n'est occupé que de soi. Cet homme est très-personnel. On dit dans le même sens, Il est d'un caractère très-personnel.

PERSONNEL, s'emploie quelquefois substantivement, et il se dit Des bonnes ou mauvaises qualités de la personne dont on parle. Son personnel est très-aimable. Son personnel est odieux. Dans cette acception, il vieillit.

PERSONNEL, en termes d'Administration, se dit Des personnes attachées à un service public ; par opposition à Matériel, qui se dit Des effets, des objets affectés à ce même service. Dans ce ministère, les dépenses relatives au personnel excèdent de beaucoup celles qui concernent le matériel.
