Censure ecclésiastique par laquelle on est retranché de la communion de l'Église. Excommunication majeure, Celle qui retranche entièrement de la communion de l'Église, et de toute communion avec les fidèles. Excommunication mineure, Celle qui interdit seulement l'usage des sacrements. Excommunication de droit, de fait. Excommunication prononcée par l'évêque. Fulminer l'excommunication. Lever l'excommunication. Encourir l'excommunication. À peine d'excommunication. Sentence d'excommunication.
